The Gate
A downloadable game
"The Gate" is an adventure game developed specifically for the Amiga classic, since it is in development phase (started in September 2023) I will specify the requirements at a later stage but I think that at least an Amiga 1200 will be required due to the its CPU power (UPDATE: There is a chance that the game will run fine even on a plain 68k).

- Your hero has a gun as main weapon and several secondary equippable tools
- Big, very big map

- Boss fights!

DIALOGUE SYSTEM
The game features a advanced dialogue system with scriptable dialogues, actors can have a portrait with several face expressions.
Dialogues can be dynamic: depending on events, situations and previous dialogues , they can vary.

TERMINALS
The gate is filled with terminals that can be hacked or used to interact with devices, doors, furnitures and other terminals.
Each terminal is driven by a script the is used to mimic a real terminal: here is a video of a terminal with a sample script:

Terminals features old-monitor glitch effects that provide nice vintage vibes :)
PICK MENU
The game features an auto-pick menu enagaged when a container is opened, this means that everything that can be taken will be automatically taken, the stuff that does not fit in your inventory will be kept into the container.
Have a look at the screenshot below to get an idea about how it works:

You can interact with objects pressing the key assigned to the action key, and here is an early video showing the Action menu :

I saw a video with this game a while ago and was unable to find it. I just saw a video (may have even been the same one) and went looking again. Their are a lot of games called The Gate on itch and oddly enough yours isn't listed. I found you by your username but again The gate was still not listed. It wasn't until I selected your username and showed everything that I was able to find it. I hope you can find a way to make this game easier to find as it is very interesting and lots of people should play it.
Hello Daishi5571!
First of all thank you for your support and for you nice words about the game β€οΈ
I don't know why on Itch it's so hard to find the game, maybe because it is tagged as "in development", and yes, you are right, there are soo much games involving "The gate" in the title!
Thank you for letting me know about this issue, I'll try to find a workaround to make it a bit more discoverable.
If you want to follow the project more closely here are my main channels:
Please let me know if you find any bug!
I've to thank you one more time because I fixed the problem with the Itch search, it seems that it was related with the cover image, btw now searching for "The Gate Amiga" the game appears as first result! YAY!π€©
Do you think an ECS machine with 020 or better will do it, too?
Hi, in a comment here on itch.io, sledge64 has tried the demo with his A500 plus and here is what he said
At this stage of development the only strict requisite is a bit of fast ram.
If you have a ECS + 020 and some fast ram you are safe, the game uses EHB mode (64 colors) for almost all the graphics :)
Have you tried the demo?
It's still on my Patreon in a free, public post -> https://www.patreon.com/posts/gate-playable-137764155
Thanks for your answer and the link. I'll try it.
No problem! If you have time, let me know how it runs :)
Really nice game, had some fun with the Demo already. Looking forward for the final version.
Thank you for your feedback!
I'm doing my best to deliver the game before the end of the year :)
Demo works great om my a1200/030. Very nice game/music. Loving the old school terminals. Did notice the backspace key isnβt working when typing a username/password. But maybe that is intentional? Anyway keep up the good work.
Thank you very much for your feedback!
Yes, I'm aware of it, no special keys are handled at the moment but I'll add support for them, at least for the backspace, and also I will ignore not handled keys instead of printing that bad little square :)
Man, this looks awesome! That's really impressive. Some fresh air in the world of new Amiga games. Will buy the game as soon as it's finished.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like the game β€οΈ
The demo works great on my Amiga 500 plus! I have tested it in both 7Mhz mode and in 42Mhz mode (still 68000 only) and with 2MB CHIP RAM and 8MB FAST RAM. It's fully playable at 7Mhz. I can't wait until the game is finished! Looks very promising!
This is a very good news to hear!
Thank you for trying the game on your system!
Nice! Awesome game!
Thank you so much for the video! β€οΈ
hint: the credentials for Sara's terminal are in the Sara's message, the document called "Sara Dinet's message" :D
Please can you release it in adf as it makes it much easier for A500mini owners like myself to play?
Hello!
I'll do my best to provide everything is necessary to play the game from everything ;)
Thank you!
This game really looks a professional product, even in earlier stages of development. Not just a run and kill enemies game, something with adventure elements and a plot, which is a great addition. Can't wait to try a demo version soon enough. Because many Amiga games lack atmosphere nowadays, I hope this one will bring ambient sounds apart from music scores.
Do you consider to translate this to other languages as well?
Hello Templar and thank you very much for your comment and your nice words!
I'm taking great care of every aspect because it's a labor of love that the Amiga deserves for being the spark that ignited my creativity :)
I've tried to add atmosphere with an engaging story to keep the player interested, there are also some fun dialogues and references.
My idea about music & sounds is to use the music only on the title screen and in the menus, during the game I planned to use only sound effects, looped sounds for machinery and simple tracks during boss fights to add tension.
I planned to deliver the demo to a couple of friends before the public release in this week, but my TV has blown up so I'll have to buy another one...
As for additional languages, yes, it's possible if the game is well received.
90% of the game data is in external files and therefore easily editable.
...furthermore, I have a lot of ideas in mind for a possible sequel :D
Well, I can help with greek language if it's of interest to you. Although, obviously a new font set will be needed, and I don't know if extra programming will be in order under AMOS Pro to show them correctly.
Some extra programming is needed but not so much complex stuff: an entry to the options menu and something in the code to setup the drawers where the translations are (and a suitable font).
Let's keep in touch, I'll decide after the release if it is worth, there are tons of dialogues to translate :)
Sure, I'm already following the project, so if you feel it's worth it, give me a nudge.
Iβm so happy youβve resumed work on this, Iβm really looking forward to it!
Thank you for your interest, such comments encourage me to speed up the development even more :)
