"The Gate" Playable Demo has landed!

Hello everyone!

The time has finally come! 🥰

Here is a package with the playable demo of "The Gate", the game is almost finished but I need to complete the maps assets (on the paper the game is 100% complete).

Here are some thing you should know:

  • This is still a WIP, you may find bugs, typos and something wrong. I've tested it on Amiberry, my A1200 needs a recap and I cannot test it on real hardware yet. A friend of mine have tested the game on his real A1200 and things worked out without issues, if you find any bug, typos or weird things please report it so I can fix them.
  • You need some fast mem to play the game, the chip ram is too slow and even if the game seems playable, it is not as smooth as it should be. I've tested it with 2 Mb of fast ram. For the Workbench, my tests were done on a standard Workbench 3.1. There are more information on the readme.
  • The demo should last over 1.5 hours if you explore everything available. The estimate final game duration should be around 15 hours (but probably even more).
  • Please read the readme.txt file included in the archive, there are things you should know to better enjoy the game, like controls, tips, how the save system works and how to play the game.
  • This is just the beginning: the rooms you are going to visit in this demo are small and simple compared to the ones you will see later in the game!
  • As I also mentioned in the readme, check everything, read the emails and the documents you find, check the terminals and take with you a pen & paper, you are an investigator and you need to take notes!

Configuring Amiberry/WinUAE

Here are the settings I've used on Amiberry to emulate an expanded Amiga 1200:

How to install the game

This demo is provided in a zip archive, unzip it where you prefer and execute the file called "thegate", it still have the standard AMOS icon, at a later time I'll provide a nice icon for the game.

If you are using an emulator you can unzip the archive into a drawer and configure it as an additional drive.

Feedback

It is really important at this development stage to receive your feedback. I've been working on this project for almost two years, and some things I take for granted might be confusing to first-time players.

Don't be shy and let me know if anything is unclear.

Why I need your support

The plan is to release the full game before the end of the year, there still some work to do like maps, enemies sounds, music, bosses, and some other very small things in the engine. To meet the deadline I will focus on this project every day, that's why I need a little financial help. As I stated in the readme file, I would greatly appreciate anyone who could support me on Patreon, but since I don't want to receive money without giving anything in return, I will deduct the donation from the cost of the game. With your permission, I will include the names of the supporters in the credits screen.

Problems running the demo?

Please let me know and I will try to fix every problem yo may encounter.

Final words

Thank you very much for anyone following this project and a big thanks to the Amiga community which is still alive and eager to see this project completed!
